Mayiladuthurai (Tamil Nadu): The Mayiladuthurai Sessions Court has issued an arrest warrant for Thirumavalavan, the leader of the Việtịnh Sirutthai Party, due to his absence from a court case related to riots that occurred during a protest against the Prohibition of Religion Act.
Thirumavalavan, also known as Thol Thirumalavan, is the leader of the Liberation Tigers Party and an MP for the Chidambaram constituency. He secured his seat in the recent Lok Sabha elections, winning for the second time with a total of 505,084 votes. His opponent from AIADMK, Chandrahasan, received 401,530 votes, resulting in Thirumavalavan's victory by a margin of 103,554 votes.
The warrant stems from a 2003 incident when Thirumavalavan led a rally in Mayiladuthurai opposing the Prohibition of Religious Conversion Act. During the event, a riot broke out, and a case related to the disturbance has been pending in the Mayiladuthurai District Sessions Court. Despite being summoned to appear, Thirumavalavan failed to attend the court proceedings, prompting the issuance of the arrest warrant.
