Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to seek funds from both national and foreign donors to help fund the implementation of the National Education Policy-2020, which requires around Rs 6,300 crore in infrastructure upgrades in schools.

In addition, the state's ambition to get all of the state's 44,500-plus government schools connected with the Central Board of Secondary Education necessitates the construction of the requisite physical infrastructure.

AP currently has 44,519 state-run schools with 66,846 rooms. The total number of rooms required in these schools is 1,15,472, according to infrastructure criteria for foundation and foundation-plus schools and high schools, as well as CBSE norms.

The government also needs Rs 450 crore every year for a School Maintenance Fund, however the money is taken from Ammavodi freebie recipients at a cost of Rs 1,000 per person. The government has been providing Rs 15,000 per year to roughly 44.5 million women for bringing their children to school under the Ammavodi scheme. Since last year, the government has credited only Rs 14,000 per mother into their accounts, with the remainder going to school maintenance.
