The Andaman and Nicobar administration is working to enhance connectivity between Port Blair and nearby islands by introducing seaplane services. The new initiative aims to link popular destinations like Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island), Shaheed Dweep (Neil Island), and Long Island, helping boost tourism in the region.

In collaboration with the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the administration is focusing on developing seaplane routes to these islands. Vishwendra, the Civil Aviation Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar, said that the seaplane service will offer convenient travel options between Port Blair and key islands like Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep, and Long Island.

A recent demonstration showcased a De Havilland Twin Otter seaplane, which is designed to take off and land on both land and water. The seaplane, which can carry up to 16 passengers, made a round trip from Port Blair’s Marina Water Sports Complex to Swaraj Dweep, highlighting the potential of the service.

Jatinder Sohal, Director of Civil Aviation for the region, said that this seaplane service will play a crucial role in connecting the islands and enhancing tourism experiences in the archipelago.
