Schools and colleges in Bengaluru have been closed due to an increase in COVID-19 cases across Karnataka, with the majority of infections centred in the capital. Following a COVID review conference today, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai's cabinet decided to impose some restrictions and close all educational institutions, with few exceptions, starting January 4, 2022. Except for classes 10-12 and nursing, medical, and paramedical institutions, the city's schools and colleges have been closed for the next two weeks.

Schools in the city would be closed for two weeks beginning January 6 under new limits imposed by Karnataka Minister R. Ashok. Students in classes 10 and 12 will be able to continue with their studies. Aside from schools, the city has imposed a weekend curfew, and clubs, pubs, and theatres have been limited to 50% capacity. Guidelines for how schools will operate, as well as requirements for online classes, will be revealed soon.

Since Karnataka recorded Omicron infections, which led the COVID tally behind Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and other larger states, it was feared that institutions and colleges in Bangalore would close. Students or children are particularly vulnerable in this situation because their vaccinations have not yet been finished.
