Recently, Aamir Khan and his ex-wife and filmmaker Kiran Rao attended a special screening of their film 'Laapata Ladies' at the Supreme Court. During this, they interacted with the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. At the screening, Aamir revealed that the decision to produce 'Laapata Ladies' arose from the fear and desire inside him.
Aamir said, “During Covid, at the age of 56, I realised that this could be the last phase of my career. I would have about 15 more years left for active work. I thought I wanted to give something to the industry, society and the country. I earlier thought I would do one film a year, but as a producer, I can encourage many stories.”
Aamir wants to encourage new talent
Aamir Khan, who is known for supporting films based on social issues, spoke about giving a chance to new talent in filmmaking. He said, "Through production I can provide a platform to new writers, directors and other talents. 'Missing Ladies' is the first step in this direction. I want to make four to five films a year so that we can see more great stories."
The inspiration behind Missing Ladies
When Chief Justice Chandrachud asked about the inspiration behind the film, Kiran Rao said that it started from an original script by Biplab Goswami. Aamir discovered the script during a Screen Writers Association competition in 2020 and decided to buy the rights. Kiran said, "We have added more humour to it."
Release of the film and response
Although the film was advised to release directly on an OTT platform, Aamir and Kiran decided to release it in theatres. Kiran said, "The film has received a great response from the audience and we are happy that we took it to the big screen."
