PANAJI: Yoga performances were held across Goa on Tuesday to commemorate World Yoga Day, with Union Members taking part in the national government's programme and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and other cabinet ministers taking part in state-level events. Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State for Tourism, presided over the event at Se Cathedral in Old Goa, and Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and Jal Shakti Prahlad Singh Patel, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and Jal Shakti, was the chief guest at the Fort Aguada venue. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant performed Yoga at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee indoor Stadium in North Goa. Apart from the state government's Taluka-based programmes, the BJP also staged events in a number of locations. Students participated in activities presented at several state schools. Shripad Naik, who spoke at the event, said that Yoga is a gift to the world that may help people better their health. "If Yoga is performed, one can live a happy and healthy life. Because of the relevance of yoga, many people in India and around the world have begun to practise it "he said. "Yoga is no longer limited to one day; people have begun to do it at all times of the year. If we do it for at least one hour every day, it can help us maintain our health "Naik remarked.
