What is the difference between A1 and A2 milk?

Most of us like to drink milk. People often drink a glass of milk in the morning and evening. It is believed that drinking milk keeps the body healthy, so everyone from children to the elderly drinks it. Drinking milk has become a daily habit of many people. But do you know that there are two types of milk? Yes, milk is known as A1 and A2. Recently, FSSAI has given an important information about these two types of milk. Let's know about it.

What is the difference between A1 and A2 milk?

The protein in milk is called "casein", and it is of two types - A1 and A2. A1 casein, when digested, forms a peptide called beta casomorphin-7 (BCM-7). It is believed that this can have effects on the digestive system and the brain. On the other hand, A2 casein does not form BCM-7 when digested, making it easier to digest.

There is a slight difference between A1 and A2 milk, which depends on the structure of the protein found in both these milks. This difference is based on the breed of the cow. Recently, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a directive regarding A1 and A2 milk, which further clarifies the difference between these two.

What is the instruction of FSSAI?

Food regulator FSSAI has recently directed various companies, including e-commerce platforms, to remove the labels of A1 and A2 milk from their packets. FSSAI has termed these labels as misleading and has given companies 6 months to remove them.

According to some reports, people believe that A2 milk is better for digestion and does not cause digestive problems. Apart from this, A2 milk is believed to reduce type 1 diabetes and heart diseases. Many people consider A2 milk to be more nutritious as it contains higher amounts of calcium and other minerals.

What next?

Currently, FSSAI has made new rules on labelling of A1 and A2 milk and many studies are being done on this. It will be interesting to see what impact these new rules have in the future and what new information comes out about A1 and A2 milk. With this information, you can now understand the difference between these two types of milk and make a better choice for yourself.
