Virtual Address by Hamas Leader Sparks Controversy at Pro-Palestine Rally in Kerala

In a recent development, a virtual address by a prominent Hamas leader has triggered a heated debate at a pro-Palestine rally held in Kerala's Malappuram district. The rally, organized by the Solidarity Youth Movement, the youth wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, has come under scrutiny for hosting the Hamas leader, Khaled Mashal, who allegedly participated in the event through a video address.

Khaled Mashal's participation in the rally drew swift condemnation from K Surendran, the State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In a statement, Surendran questioned the role of the Kerala Police and called for action against Mashal's involvement in the event. He expressed concern over the glorification of Hamas, a designated terrorist organization, and its leaders as 'warriors' under the banner of 'Save Palestine,' labeling this as an unacceptable act.

Meanwhile, political tensions escalated further when the BJP criticized Shashi Tharoor, a Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and Lok Sabha MP, for his participation in the Indian Union Muslim League's rally in support of Palestine. The BJP accused the event of being "pro-Hamas" and voiced concern that the ongoing conflict in Palestine was being exploited to stoke communal tensions within the state.

The IUML's rally in Kozhikode, which saw thousands of supporters expressing solidarity with the war-ravaged Palestine, faced allegations of raising anti-national slogans throughout the program. BJP's State President, K Surendran, further contended that Tharoor's participation in the rally, given his previous role as a UN diplomat, contradicted the established stance of the country on the Palestine issue.

This controversy has ignited a fierce debate within Kerala, highlighting the complexities and sensitivities surrounding the Israel-Palestine conflict on a global scale.
