Virat Kohli expressed his joy at reuniting with MS Dhoni ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 opening match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday, March 22 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Kohli's journey in international cricket began under Dhoni's leadership back in 2008. Over the years, Kohli developed deep admiration for Dhoni, crediting him for his growth as both a batsman and a captain. Besides meeting Dhoni, the 35-year-old Kohli was thrilled about the prospect of playing in front of enthusiastic fans at the Chepauk. "Playing against Chennai is always special, it's a big game, and it's like a southern derby," Kohli shared with RCB Bold Diaries ahead of the opening game. "It's great to play in front of the passionate Chennai fans. And catching up with MS feels good, it's been a while." In December 2014, during the Australian tour, Kohli succeeded Dhoni as Team India's Test captain. Subsequently, in 2017, Dhoni handed over the reins to Kohli in ODIs and T20Is as well. Following his last appearance in the national colors during the 2019 World Cup semi-final, Dhoni bid adieu to international cricket.
