CHAMOLI: In a heartbreaking incident in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, a Nepali national lost his life while another sustained injuries after being buried under a massive rock that fell onto a residential house late Monday night. The tragic event occurred near Marwari Bridge on the Badrinath National Highway, amidst heavy rains which triggered the fatal rock collapse. The house, belonging to Nepali workers, was struck by the rock, burying the two workers under debris from the hillside. Authorities promptly responded to the emergency, with police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) mobilizing rescue efforts upon receiving notification of the mishap. Despite swift action, one of the workers, M Bahadur, aged 25 and hailing from Sukhkhet Nepal, succumbed to his injuries before rescuers could reach him. Efforts are underway to inform the deceased’s relatives of the tragic event. Meanwhile, the closure of the Badrinath National Highway at multiple points due to landslides, including the recent closure near Kanchan Nala, highlights the ongoing challenges posed by heavy rainfall in the region.
