Uttarakhand to Reserve Govt Jobs for Agniveers, Announces CM Dhami

DEHRADUN: On Friday, July 26, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced a significant new initiative for Agniveers, the new recruits in the armed forces. In a notable move coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Dhami revealed that Agniveers will be granted reservation in government jobs in Uttarakhand upon their return from military service. This announcement came during a tribute event honoring the valiant armed forces personnel who fought bravely in the Kargil War of 1999.

Addressing the event, Dhami emphasized that a new piece of legislation will be introduced to ensure this reservation. "We are working on creating an Act to provide reservation for Agniveers in government services. We intend to utilize their skills and discipline in various government departments," Dhami said.

In addition to the job reservation announcement, the Chief Minister revealed an increase in financial aid for the families of martyrs. The aid will be raised from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. Dhami acknowledged the immense sacrifice made by these soldiers, saying, "No sacrifice is greater than laying down one's life for the nation. No amount of financial grant or honor can fully compensate for this supreme sacrifice."

Dhami also paid tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil War, noting that victory in such conflicts depends not only on the bravery of soldiers but also on the political leadership. He praised the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his courage and leadership during the war.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in boosting the morale of the armed forces. Dhami cited initiatives such as the implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme as examples of the government's commitment to the welfare of military personnel. "Prime Minister Modi is continuing this legacy and is currently celebrating Vijay Diwas with soldiers in the Dras sector," Dhami added.
