In today's voting, 1,519 candidates are trying their luck in a total of 165 assembly seats in the three states. Around 2.2 crore voters will exercise their franchise in UP today. In fact, the second phase of polling is taking place in Uttar Pradesh today. According to reports, polling in Uttar Pradesh will be held from 7 am to 6 pm on Monday. Out of the 55 seats in the second phase, the BJP had won 38 seats in 2017, while the SP won 15 and the Congress two. You may know that SP and Congress had fought the last assembly election in alliance and out of the 15 seats won by SP, Muslim candidates won in 10. Ahead of the polling today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted an appeal to the people to vote in large numbers. In his tweet, he wrote, "With the second round of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, voting is underway for all assembly seats in Uttarakhand and Goa today. My request to all voters is to be partners in this sacred celebration of democracy and set a new record of voting. Remember– first voting, then any other work.'' Let us tell you all that security has been tightened in Uttar Pradesh for the second phase of polling. Officials here say that 'more than 60,000 policemen and around 800 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed. There will be more security in 4,917 polling stations out of 12,538.
