Dehradun: A tragic incident occurred on Thursday when a 20-year-old student lost her life after being run over by a train while filming an Instagram reel near a railway track in Uttarakhand's Roorkee. According to the police, the unfortunate incident took place in the Shivpuram area of Roorkee. The victim, identified as Vaishali, was shooting the reel with her friend when the train approached, resulting in the fatal accident. While Vaishali lost her life, her friend managed to escape and immediately informed Vaishali's family members about the tragedy. Vaishali, a student at the College of Engineering Roorkee, hailed from Haripur Tongia village in Haridwar and was residing with her maternal uncle in Roorkee. The incident occurred on May 2 when Vaishali was filming the reel near the railway track and was struck by the Barmer Express. Tragically, she died on the spot, as confirmed by the police. "The girl and her friend were filming a reel near the railway track when the unfortunate incident occurred. The family members of the girls were notified, and the body was sent for postmortem examination," stated Govind Ram, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Gangnahar police station. Following this tragic event, the Haridwar Police issued a statement urging people not to engage in dangerous activities while filming social media content. "To gain popularity on social media, young people are risking their lives by creating dangerous reels every day. Is it worth making such a mistake?" Haridwar Police posted on the microblogging site X. This incident echoes a similar tragedy from last year when a 20-year-old man fell to his death while filming an Instagram reel with his friends at Government Science College in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. The incident was captured on camera by the man's friend using a mobile phone.
