TMC nominates former-Goa CM Faleiro to Rajya Sabha seat

Panaji: Former Goa Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday, November 13.

On November 29, a Rajya Sabha seat in West Bengal will be decided. On September 15, TMC MP Arpita Ghosh resigned from the Upper House, and the seat has been vacant ever since. Next Monday, Faleiro is expected to file his nomination in the West Bengal Assembly. On September 29, the former Congress leader joined the TMC and was later named vice-president of the party. West Bengal's ruling party has nominated a Goa leader to the Upper House at a time when it is attempting to expand its influence in the western coastal state.

Mamata Banerjee, the TMC chairwoman and West Bengal Chief Minister, visited Goa in October and held a series of public engagements. The TMC seeks to position itself as an alternative to the BJP in the Goa Assembly election in 2022. In the western state, the TMC has ruled out any pre-election partnership. Sushmita Dev, a former Congress MP who just joined the TMC, has also been nominated by the party. Ms. Dev is a key figure in the TMC's election campaign in Tripura, which is set to vote in 2023.
