Kolkata: The main accused in the Sandeshkhali case and TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan has finally been arrested by the West Bengal Police. He was apprehended by the police on the morning of February 29th. He had been absconding for the past 55 days. During this time, several close associates were arrested, but Shahjahan's whereabouts remained unknown. He was apprehended from the Minakhan area of North 24 Parganas by the West Bengal Police. Following the arrest, he is to be presented in the Basirhat Sub-Divisional Court. Currently, he is in judicial custody. It is worth mentioning that over 70 complaints were lodged against TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan in Sandeshkhali. The police filed an FIR in this case just two days ago. Meanwhile, the Kolkata High Court had clearly stated that there would be no hindrance to Sheikh Shahjahan's arrest. His arrest is necessary. On Wednesday, the court directed that Sheikh Shahjahan, the main accused in cases of sexual assault against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, could be arrested by either the CBI, Enforcement Directorate (ED), or the West Bengal Police. After the High Court's rebuke, the TMC party in Bengal had said that they would arrest Sheikh Shahjahan within a week. It is noteworthy that last month, the ED had raided Sheikh Shahjahan's house in connection with a ration scam case. However, his supporters retaliated against the ED, and Sheikh Shahjahan went into hiding. Since then, nobody knew the whereabouts of the TMC leader. Recently, his brother told the media that he is in Bengal, but his location remains undisclosed.
