Trinamool Congress (TMC) criticised, the Meghalaya government of "patronising" illegal coal mining and transportation. TMC member Marthon Sangma stated that the State administration was utilising several ministries to gain money while denying the State revenue.
''Unlawfully extracted coal from Meghalaya was transported as coal from Assam before being illegally transferred to Bangladesh.'' Said Sangma
He further said that by doing so, few officers and traders in Meghalaya profited while Assam benefited from the coal revenue. He said that cops alone would not be able to handle the issue without government aid. "I can swear for the fact that not a single kilogramme of coal is exported from Assam to Bangladesh," Sangma said.
