Hyderabad: Thousands of seats in degree colleges under Osmania University are vacant for 2020-21 due to delayined admissions due to Covid-19 and minimum interest of students towards technical courses. According to sources, a total of 66,000 seats in the university cannot be filled. Many degree colleges in the Osmania University are in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medak districts. These colleges are identified on the basis of diversity and the Higher Education Council fills up seats every year under the Degree (Degree Online Service, Telangana) program in degree colleges. There are 1,48,210 seats in The Osmania University. 85,079 seats were admitted. At the same time, 63,131 seats are vacant. Also, there are about 15,000 seats in offline colleges, and 3,000 seats are estimated to be empty. The remaining seats are mostly in government and private unaided colleges. There are 1,10,855 seats in the Dost Program (DAST) of 287 colleges of the private aid sector. Of these, only 57,805 seats were filled. Seats are reserved in all colleges except railway and private (autonomous) colleges. This time the Higher Education Board informed about zero admission in 10 colleges. Although there are students in the second and third years of the degree courses, there is no one in the first year. Now the second and third year students are likely to close the college as they graduate.
