In the early 19th century, the region caught the attention of Mexican explorer Antonio Armijo, leading to a deviation from the traditional path between New Mexico and California. Around 1829, a scouting party led by Rafael Rivera stumbled upon the lush oasis of Las Vegas Springs, nestled amidst the desert landscape. The area, blessed with verdant meadows, earned its name—Las Vegas, meaning "the meadows."
Fast forward to May 15, 1905, when the Los Angeles, Salt Lake and San Pedro Railroad auctioned off 110 acres, officially establishing the township of Las Vegas.
