A 22-year-old female doctor, Vandana Das, was stabbed to death on Wednesday by a man who was brought for treatment at a taluk hospital in Kerala's Kottarakkara. He said that the doctor was taken to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram where she succumbed to her injuries. Giving information about the incident, an official of the Kottarakkara police station has said that the accused had also called the emergency number to save himself after assaulting his family members. He told that the police reached the spot, took the accused to the taluk hospital in an injured condition. The officer has said, "He had consumed alcohol and when we took him to the hospital, he became violent. He was alone with the lady doctor as we were not allowed to enter the room. The doctor bandaged the wound of the accused." He was later overpowered with great difficulty and taken into custody, the official said. He has said that a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has also been registered against the accused, while a murder case will also be registered against the accused after her death. Reacting to the incident, an official of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has told a TV channel that it is an unfortunate and sad incident and doctors across Kerala are going to protest against it. The IMA official has said that Dr Vandana Das was a house surgeon at the Azizia Medical College Hospital and was in the taluk hospital as part of her training.
