Kochi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has accused the CPI of attempting to divide the anti-BJP vote in Thiruvananthapuram through their campaign against him. Tharoor criticized the CPI's strategy, pointing out the contradiction in their stance regarding Rahul Gandhi's candidature in Wayanad. In response, CPI General Secretary D Raja defended the Left's role in combating communal and fascist forces, labeling Tharoor's statement as absurd. Raja questioned Rahul Gandhi's decision to contest from Wayanad, arguing that it undermines the fight against the BJP. Tharoor expressed confidence in his track record of 15 years of service to the people of Thiruvananthapuram, asserting that his work speaks for itself. He emphasized the significance of the three-cornered fight in the constituency, acknowledging the serious challenge posed by both the LDF and BJP candidates. The BJP has nominated Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar as their candidate against Tharoor in the upcoming elections. Pannyan Raveendran, the LDF's candidate, highlighted that the primary contest in Thiruvananthapuram is between the LDF and UDF, dismissing the BJP's relevance in the constituency. Kerala is scheduled to hold elections in a single phase on April 26, with 20 Lok Sabha constituencies at stake. Despite the BJP's historical lack of success in the state, the upcoming elections remain crucial in shaping Kerala's political landscape.
