Mumbai: Sanjay Raut, a prominent Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, has criticized Maharashtra's assembly speaker, Rahul Narwekar, accusing him of obstructing the disqualification proceedings of rebel Shiv Sena MLAs. This criticism follows a recent rebuke from the Supreme Court for the prolonged delay in resolving these disqualification pleas. Raut expressed his dismay, saying that the speaker's actions resemble providing shelter to a criminal and encouraging further wrongdoing. He questioned whether the speaker is unaware of the law governing such matters. The Supreme Court's stern comments on Friday regarding the delay in making decisions on Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Shiv Sena MLAs loyal to him put the speaker and the Maharashtra government under the spotlight. The court stressed that the proceedings must not be treated as mere theatrics and that its orders cannot be disregarded. The court demanded a clear timeline for resolving these petitions, threatening to issue a decisive order if unsatisfied. The objective is to ensure that disqualification proceedings are not indefinitely postponed, clarifying that the intention behind setting a timeline was to prevent unnecessary delays in the proceedings.
