Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known as 'Desh ka Vallabh,' and the Major Ralengnao 'Bob' Khathing Museum of Valour in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, on Thursday. The event was carried out from the 4 Corps Headquarters in Tezpur, Assam, as Singh was unable to travel to Tawang due to inclement weather. Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, present for the inauguration, emphasized the significance of unity and harmony that the event embodies. He expressed, “Joined Rajnath Singh Ji, Union Minister of Defence, in flagging off the Run For Unity in the presence of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. Gen. KT Parnaik (Retd), Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju at Tawang. The event upholds the spirit of unity, harmony, and resilience, reflecting our common aspirations for the nation’s growth and advancement.” Arunachal CM Pema Khandu also highlighted the occasion, stating, “I am proud to witness CM N Biren Singh pay tribute to the brave soldiers of the 1962 war at the Tawang War Memorial. His wreath-laying honors the courage and sacrifice of the heroes who defended our nation with valor. Such moments remind us of our shared duty to uphold their legacy of dedication and patriotism.” Union Minister Kiren Rijiju paid homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, stating, “My humble homage to the Iron Man of India on his birth anniversary. The whole of India is eternally inspired by his service to the unity and integrity of the nation.” The unveiling of the statue coincided with the festival of lights, Deepawali, and 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas,' celebrated on October 31 each year to honor the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. Singh concluded his address by mentioning the broad consensus achieved between India and China to restore the ground situation in specific areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
