JAIPUR: Subhash Maharia, a former Union minister and leader of the Congress, formally joined the BJP on Friday in the presence of BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh. In addition to Maharia, former IPS officers Ramdev Singh Khariwa, PR Meena, Gopal Meena, Narsi Kirad, and Hemant Sharma also joined the BJP."Congress's mass base leader, former MP, and former Union Minister Subhash Mahariya joined BJP believing in five principles in protest against Congress's false promises, corruption, Jungle Raj, and inspired by Prime Minister Modi's poor welfare schemes," BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh said on Twitter. Subhash Maharia had previously informed Mallikarjun Kharge of his resignation. Prior to joining the Congress, Maharia was a member of the BJP. He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1998, 1999, and 2004. After losing in the Lok Sabha elections of 2009, the BJP did not issue him a ticket for the 2014 election. Maharia served as a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee administration and as the BJP's Kisan Morcha's national vice president. On a Congress ticket, he ran against the BJP in the general elections of 2019. As the simmering tensions between Gehlot and Sachin Pilot have come to light just before the state's scheduled Assembly elections later this year, the Rajasthan branch of the Congress is continuing to cause the party's high leadership headaches. Prior to the vital Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the Congress party is running for re-election.
