Funeral of monkey taken out with fanfare, last rites done with Vedic rituals

Jaipur: After the death of a monkey in the Dholpur district of Rajasthan on Tuesday, people took out a funeral procession with fanfare and performed the last rites of the monkey as per Vedic tradition. The incident took place near Ghantaghar in Bari town. A monkey died here today. The monkey is considered to be a replica of Hanuman Ji and yesterday was also Tuesday. Animal-bird lover Ramkumar Chaudhary and locals decided to cremate the monkey in accordance with Vedic traditions.

The dead monkey was bathed and dressed in new clothes. His body was then placed in a cart and the funeral procession was taken out along with the bands. The funeral procession passed through the town to Muktidham and buried the dead monkey with the law. People sang Hanumanji's aarti on the spot and wished for the peace of the monkey's soul. The monkey was seriously injured in a dog attack near Ghantaghar in Bari town on Tuesday.

Animal-bird lover Ramkumar Chaudhary and others called veterinarian Manmohan Pachauri to the spot and treated the injured monkey. The monkey died during treatment. After that, people took out a funeral procession with the bands and cremated the dead monkey with tradition.
