Jaipur: A private school principal and the father of a 14-year-old rape survivor have been arrested for allegedly tampering with the girl's birth records to help the accused secure bail, police reported on Sunday. The principal, Prannath Mal, was apprehended in Deoria on Thursday, while the girl's father, Sanjay, was arrested from Behror in Rajasthan on Saturday night, according to Station House Officer (SHO) Sunil Kumar Jangir of Murlipura Police Station. The case originated when the girl filed an FIR in July, accusing her aunt of selling her to one Sandeep Yadav from Haryana for ₹2 lakh, after which she was raped. The FIR led to the arrests of her aunt, Sandeep Yadav, and his father, Satveer Yadav, who were all sent to judicial custody. During the investigation, it was discovered that Sanjay, the girl's father, had sought the assistance of the private school in Uttar Pradesh to obtain a falsified birth record. The record incorrectly stated that the girl's birth year was 2003, rather than 2010, making her appear to be 21 years old instead of a minor. The SHO revealed that after the girl’s FIR, the police obtained her official records confirming her minor status. The discovery of the false document led to further investigation, and a team was dispatched to Uttar Pradesh. They found tampering in the school register, which was subsequently seized. Principal Prannath Mal admitted to creating the false record at the request of the girl's father. Following this, Sanjay was also arrested on Saturday night. Both the principal and the girl's father have been charged in connection with the tampering of official documents.
