As part of the 75th-anniversary celebrations of the Indian Constitution, President Droupadi Murmu will deliver an address to members of both Houses of Parliament in the Central Hall on Tuesday.
The event is expected to feature Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers, Members of Parliament, foreign dignitaries, and other notable guests. Vice-President Dhankhar will also speak at the gathering, while Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will extend a welcome to the attendees.
On Monday, the government announced the launch of a new website, "https://constitution75.com," which is designed to help citizens connect with the Constitution's legacy through various interactive activities and resources. It also mentioned that mass readings of the Preamble will take place across schools, cities, and villages nationwide.
To commemorate this historic occasion, a special coin and stamp will be released to honor the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution's adoption. Two books, titled "Making of the Constitution of India: A Glimpse" and "Making of the Constitution of India & Its Glorious Journey," are set to be unveiled.
Additional highlights include the release of a booklet showcasing the art of the Indian Constitution, along with translations of the Constitution into Sanskrit and Maithili. A short film depicting the history, significance, and evolution of the Indian Constitution will also be screened for attendees.
This event holds great importance as it marks the 75th year since the Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949. It officially came into effect on January 26, 1950.
Ahead of the celebrations, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla highlighted the importance of the occasion in paying tribute to B.R. Ambedkar and other key figures involved in drafting the Constitution.
“Constitution Day is a reminder of the sacrifices made by Babasaheb Ambedkar and his efforts to lay the foundation of Indian democracy,” Birla said. President Murmu will lead the reading of the Preamble, a gesture aimed at fostering gratitude and emphasizing the core values of the Constitution.
Looking forward to the day, Birla said, “I hope this Constitution Day becomes a national movement, encouraging every citizen to recognize the significance of the Constitution and its creators. By upholding the duties and responsibilities outlined in the Constitution, we can strive towards the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.” The Constitution Day celebrations are scheduled for November 26.
