Chennai: MK Stalin has made a major reshuffle in his cabinet in Tamil Nadu, appointing his son Udhayanidhi Stalin as Deputy Chief Minister. Apart from this, Senthil Balaji has been re-inducted as a minister, after whose arrest many questions were raised on the DMK. According to a statement issued by the Raj Bhavan, Chief Minister MK Stalin had recommended the inclusion of V Senthil Balaji, Dr. Govi Chezhiyan, R Rajendran and SM Nasar in the cabinet, which has been approved by the Governor. The swearing-in ceremony of the ministers will be held on September 29, and Udhayanidhi Stalin will be sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister on October 1. Udhayanidhi Stalin, who was earlier the Sports Minister, will now hold the additional charge of Deputy Chief Minister. This change has been made after the completion of three years of the DMK government, and several cabinet members have been removed and new faces have been included. New leaders like Coimbatore Chezhiyan and Rajendran have been given place in the cabinet, while the departments of the existing ministers have also been changed. Higher Education Minister Ponmudi has been given the Forest Department, and Rajkannappan has been assigned the Dairy Department. Mathivendan has been given the responsibility of the Adi Dravida Welfare Department and Mayyanathan has been given the responsibility of the Backward Classes Welfare Department. This political change is being considered an important step in Tamil Nadu politics, as MK Stalin's father Karunanidhi had also done the same in his time. He first made Stalin the Deputy Chief Minister and gradually handed him the Chief Minister's chair. Now MK Stalin is doing the same thing with his son Udhayanidhi. It is believed that he is preparing him as the future Chief Minister, as the tradition of handing over the throne to the son after the father is quite old in Tamil Nadu politics.
