Shahdol: A tragic incident occurred in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district when a policeman was run over by a tractor transporting illegally mined sand, as confirmed by a police official on Sunday. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Mahendra Bagri, along with two colleagues, was on his way for warrant cases when they spotted a sand-laden tractor-trolley being driven recklessly towards them. Attempting to stop the vehicle, Bagri and his team signaled the driver to halt. However, the driver ignored the signal, resulting in the tragic incident where the ASI was run over. Following the collision, the driver fled the scene, leaving the speeding tractor out of control. The vehicle collided with a culvert and overturned, said the police official. A case has been registered against the driver and his accomplice. While the driver escaped, the owner of the vehicle is currently absconding. Authorities have announced a reward of Rs 30,000 for any information leading to his arrest. This unfortunate incident recalls a similar tragedy from November last year, when a local revenue department official lost his life after being crushed by a tractor-trolley transporting illegally mined sand from the Son river in Gopalpur area of Shahdol district.
