Nigerian citizens were illegally infiltrated through Bangladesh, arrested

Shillong: Nigerian nationals have been arrested for illegally infiltrating into the Western Jaintian Hills district of Meghalaya via Bangladesh. The number of people arrested is stated to be three. According to the police, four Indians who made unauthorized entry of these illegal intruders have also been arrested.

Police say 17 citizens of Africa were arrested in a similar case last month in the nearby East Jaintia Hills district. A Superintendent of Police was alerted and arrested from Dengshakap village near the Indo-Bangladesh border early Thursday, based on a tip-off that some Nigerian nationals were moving from Bangladesh towards the international border, District Superintendent of Police Lakador Syim said.

According to the Superintendent of Police, the arrested citizens have been identified as Chukwuma Celestine Okwuwa (34), Lucky Osas Enebi (36) and Ndubuisi Mosse Cheme (28). He was arrested from an SUV car for detention and later travelling without documents. The Superintendent said that four of his colleagues from the district have also been arrested for their assistance in the illegal entry.
