New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to launch Ujjwala 2.0 (Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana) today. Under the scheme, LPG connections will be distributed among beneficiaries at Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh. This event will be held today i.e. Tuesday at 12:30 pm through video conferencing. According to reports, PM Modi will interact with the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana and address the entire country during the event. When Ujjwala 1.0 was launched in 2016, a target of providing LPG connections to 5 crore women below the poverty line (BPL) was set. Talking about Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the Government provides domestic kitchen gas. In fact, the scheme is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. In April 2018, the scope of the scheme was widened and it included 7 categories of women (SC/ST) women. Women beneficiaries of ST, PMAY, AAY, Most Backward Classes, Tea Gardens, Forest Dwellers, Islands) were included. In addition, the target has been revised to 8 crore LPG connections and the target has been achieved only in August 2019, seven months before the scheduled date. Beneficiaries to get these facilities - Under Ujjwala 2.0, the beneficiaries will be provided with deposit free LPG connection as well as the first refill and hotplate free of cost. Similarly, it will require minimum paperwork for the nomination process. Further, in Ujjwala 2.0, migrants will not be required to submit ration cards or residence certificates. An announcement by itself is sufficient for both the 'family declaration' and the 'residence proof'.
