Operation Ajay: First Group of 7 Malayalees Safely Returned from Israel's Conflict Zone to Kerala

New Delhi In a remarkable effort under the banner of Operation Ajay, the Indian government successfully facilitated the return of seven Malayali individuals who were among the 212 Indians stranded in the war-torn region of Israel. This significant operation saw its first fruition as these seven individuals arrived in India on a Friday morning, marking a heartwarming moment for their families and well-wishers back home.

The group of returnees includes Achyut MC from Kannur, Gopika Shibu from Kollam, as well as Sisira Mamparamkunnu, Radhikesh Nair, and his wife Rasitha TP from Malappuram. Joining them are Divya Ram from Thiruvananthapuram and Nila Nanda from Palakkad, all of whom are students and researchers. These Malayalis were brought back home through the coordinated efforts of Operation Ajay, providing them with a safe passage out of the conflict-stricken area.

Upon their arrival at Delhi airport, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar extended a warm welcome and interacted with these students and professionals who had been stranded in Israel. Kerala House, a prominent state facility in the capital, played a crucial role in ensuring the returnees' comfort and well-being. This included arranging flights for their journey back to Kerala, as well as offering essential support services.

The origin of this mission can be traced back to a request made by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to Union Minister for External Affairs, S. Jaishankar, earlier in the week. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, steps were immediately initiated to ensure the safe return of stranded Keralites from the conflict zone in Israel. This accomplishment follows the successful repatriation of a group of tourists who were also caught in the turmoil of war-hit Israel, showcasing the commitment of the Indian government to safeguard its citizens abroad.

This humanitarian mission carries poignant significance due to the recent incidents involving Malayali individuals in Israel. Just a few days ago, Sheeja Anand, a native of Kannur who was working as a caregiver in Ashkelon, suffered injuries in a rocket attack by Hamas. Tragically, in 2021, Kerala native Soumya, who was also working as a caregiver in Israel, lost her life in a similar rocket attack. These incidents underscore the pressing need for such rescue operations and the safety of Indian citizens in conflict zones abroad.

Operation Ajay stands as a testament to the Indian government's commitment to the welfare and security of its citizens overseas. With the successful repatriation of the first group of Malayali individuals, it sets a heartwarming example of compassion and diplomacy in action during challenging times.
