Odisha Colleges to begin 'Juba Sanskaar' classes on January 1st.

Odisha: The Odisha government has decided to implement the 'Juba Sanskaar' initiative in colleges across the state, from the first day of the New Year.

Saswat Mishra, the Principal Secretary of the Education Department, wrote to the principals of all government and government-aided degree colleges in the Higher Education Department on December 23, requesting that they begin this non-academic programme in their respective institutions. Mishra stated in his letter that character development should be the major goal of any educational system.

"Under this 'Juba Sanskaar' programme, Juba Sanskaar classes - one period of standard duration -should be held class-wise or section-wise covering all students of all UG and PG semesters-mandatory at least once a month," Mishra wrote.

He also stated that the students would be shown freely available decent short audiovisual films on character building subjects such as staying away from drugs/tobacco, imbibing patriotism, and developing a feeling of respect for women and seniors.
