New Zealand Makes History with First Test Win in India in 36 Years

New Zealand achieved a historic feat by winning a Test match in India for the first time in 36 years, defeating the hosts by eight wickets in Bengaluru. This remarkable victory was marked by outstanding performances from Matt Henry, who took five wickets, Rachin Ravindra, who scored a century, and Sarfaraz Khan, who also hit his first Test ton. Despite a brief fightback, India was ultimately overwhelmed by New Zealand's bowling in both innings.

After a rain-affected match, New Zealand began their chase of a modest target of 107 runs on a challenging note, losing a wicket with just the second ball. However, Will Young stood strong, remaining unbeaten on 48 runs despite a fierce bowling attack from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Rachin Ravindra followed his first-innings century with a quick 39 not out, sealing the match for New Zealand.

In India's first innings, they faced a shocking collapse. After Day 1 was washed out, captain Rohit Sharma opted to bat on a damp pitch under overcast skies. The Indian batsmen struggled against New Zealand's pace attack, collapsing for a mere 46 runs, their third-lowest total in Test history and the lowest at home. They were bowled out in just 31.2 overs, with Matt Henry leading the charge with impressive figures of 5 for 15, while William O'Rourke supported with four wickets. New Zealand's fielding also played a crucial role, as they executed several outstanding catches.

New Zealand capitalized on this advantage, amassing a staggering 402 runs in their innings without losing any wickets. Opener Devon Conway contributed 91 runs, while Rachin Ravindra dazzled the crowd with a magnificent 134, which included 13 fours and four sixes. A significant partnership between Ravindra and Tim Southee, who scored 65 runs, further solidified New Zealand's position, as they built a 366-run lead.

Despite the daunting target, India showed resilience in their second innings. Rohit Sharma led the way with a solid 52 runs, but it was the middle order that truly shone. Virat Kohli, who had a disappointing first innings, bounced back with 70 runs, while young talent Sarfaraz Khan scored his maiden Test century, finishing with 150 runs. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant narrowly missed his century, getting out for 99. The pair added 172 runs for the fourth wicket, allowing India to briefly take the lead.

However, New Zealand's bowlers struck back decisively, with Henry and O'Rourke once again leading the charge, claiming three wickets each as India lost seven wickets for just 57 runs, finishing their innings with 462 runs.

On Day 4, New Zealand ended the day at 0 for 0, with only four balls bowled due to bad light and rain. On the final day, the visitors demonstrated their skill and determination, securing a historic victory in challenging conditions.
