Neil Nongkynrih's mortal remains reach Shillong, funeral tomorrow

In the early hours of Friday, the remains of Neil Nongkynrih, the founder of the Shillong Chamber Choir, arrived at his Shillong home.At roughly 2:30 a.m., Neil's body was brought to his home by the many relatives and friends.

 

Neil Nongkynrih's mortal remains had arrived at the LGBI airport in Guwahati from Mumbai about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday. Neil Nongkynrih's corpse was welcomed by relatives at the LGBI airport in Guwahati and was immediately taken to Shillong once the airport formalities were completed. Neil Nongkynrih's funeral has been set for Saturday.

The funeral is likely to draw leading people from Meghalaya and the Northeast. As the corpse of Neil Nongkynrih arrived at his home in Shillong, emotional emotions ensued. Neil Nongkynrih, a well-known concert pianist and the founder of the Shillong Chamber Choir, died on Wednesday in Mumbai at the age of 51.

Since November 2021, Nongkynrih and the Choir have been in Mumbai working on a spiritual record. Nongkynrih was born on July 9, 1970, to Elvirial Nongkynrih and AH Scott Lyngdoh, a former Meghalaya minister and former chief secretary of Mizoram. Nongkynrih was his family's first professional musician.

His grand-aunt had exposed him to Mozart and Beethoven, and he received the most of his early lessons from his jazz musician sister Pauline Nongkynrih. Nongkynrih moved to the United Kingdom to study music in 1988. In London, he studied music at Trinity College and Guildhall School of Music. Nongkynrih was also teaching music in Oxfordshire in addition to the concerts.

Nongkynrih returned to India in 2001 and began teaching piano in Shillong. He then established the Shillong Chamber Choir. Nongkynrih rose to fame in 2010 after his choir won the Indian television reality show India's Got Talent. Nongkynrih and his squad haven't looked back since. In 2015, Nongkynrih received the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honour.

Nongkynrih was also a member of the World Choir Council and got the U Tirot Sing Award in 2011. He was also named Forbes Person of the Year for 2010-11. From 2017 until his death, he was a member of the Central Board of Film Certification.
