Mumbai: National Congress Party (NCP) chief Ajit Pawar announced on Saturday that the initial discussions on seat sharing within the Mahayuti alliance have been completed in preparation for the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Pawar stated that the alliance will reconvene to finalize the allocation of the 288 seats. “We have completed the first round of discussions regarding seat sharing. We will meet again to decide which party will get which seat out of the 288 available. We will deliberate and finalize these details,” Ajit Pawar said. He emphasized that "elective merit" will guide the seat allocation process. Addressing recent controversies, Ajit Pawar declined to comment on Shiv Sena leader Tanaji Sawant's critical remarks about NCP leaders. Pawar stated, "I have decided from the beginning of the Jan Samman Yatra that I will not comment on anyone. Criticisms don’t affect me; I believe in focusing on my work." Tanaji Sawant had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the alliance, saying, "Even if we sit next to each other in the cabinet, I feel nauseous afterward." In a separate issue, Ajit Pawar visited the site in Malvan where a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj collapsed on August 26. He expressed sadness over the incident and reaffirmed the importance of the statue as a symbol of pride and heritage. “The Chief Minister has already held meetings about this incident. Efforts are underway to rebuild the memorial, and action will be taken against those responsible, regardless of their attempts to evade accountability,” Pawar added. The Maharashtra legislative assembly elections will be held across 288 constituencies, with the Election Commission of India yet to announce the election dates. The upcoming elections will see a contest between the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, comprising the UBT Shiv Sena, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress, and the Maha Yuti Alliance, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction). In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance gained momentum, with Shiv Sena (UBT) winning nine seats, Congress securing thirteen, and the NCP-SP winning eight, bringing their total to 30 seats. Conversely, the Mahayuti alliance faced setbacks, with the BJP winning only nine seats, Shiv Sena seven, and NCP securing just one, totaling 17 seats for the alliance.
