Nagaland: 'March against AFSPA' begins from Dimapur to Kohima

In Nagaland, calls for the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) have grown louder. People from all areas of life have come out in protest to the AFSPA, demanding that the "draconian" law be repealed. On Monday morning, a 75-kilometer peace march began in Dimapur, Nagaland's commercial capital.

On Tuesday, the march will end in Kohima, Nagaland's capital city. The two-day 'walkathon' has been organised to urge the repeal of the AFSPA as well as justice for the 14 people slain by security personnel in Nagaland on December 4 last year.

In a botched counter-insurgency operation on December 4, commandos of the 21 para special forces fired murdered at least 14 innocent Nagaland residents in Oting village in the state's Mon district. The "march against AFSPA" began at 6:30 a.m. on Monday at Dimapur's Supermarket area.
