Microsoft Announces End of Support for 365 Apps on Windows 10: Yes, Microsoft has confirmed that support for its Office applications, now branded as Microsoft 365 apps, will officially end on Windows 10 devices starting October 14, 2025. In a recent blog post, the company stated, “Microsoft 365 Apps will no longer be supported after October 14, 2025, on Windows 10 devices. To use these applications on your device, you must upgrade to Windows 11.” This date also coincides with the end of official support for the Windows 10 operating system. Users who wish to avoid potential issues with Microsoft 365 apps will need to transition to Windows 11. While the apps won’t immediately stop functioning after the support ends, Microsoft warns of possible performance and reliability problems over time. In a bid to encourage upgrades, Microsoft has labeled 2025 as “the year of the Windows 11 PC refresh.” During a presentation at CES, Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s Executive Vice President and Consumer Chief Marketing Officer, highlighted the significance of upgrading: “We believe that one of the most important pieces of technology people will look to refresh in 2025 isn’t the refrigerator, the television, or their mobile phone, but It'll be their Windows 10-PC, and they will move forward with Windows-11.” Barriers to Windows 11 Adoption Many users have yet to switch to Windows 11 due to stringent hardware requirements. Windows 11 mandates the presence of a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0, which Microsoft has called “non-negotiable.” This has been a hurdle, especially for older PCs. Gamers, in particular, have expressed reluctance to upgrade, citing concerns over compatibility and system performance. To address these challenges, Microsoft has started displaying full-screen prompts encouraging users to consider buying new PCs compatible with Windows 11. Windows 10 Extended Security Updates Although support for Windows 10 will end in 2025, Microsoft is offering Extended Security Updates (ESUs) to provide some flexibility. Individual users can purchase an extra year of security updates for $30, while businesses can opt for up to three additional years of support at a premium. As the October 2025 deadline nears, Microsoft is urging users to upgrade to Windows 11 to ensure they enjoy uninterrupted access to its apps and services.
