Maharashtra CM News Live: Suspense Over CM Post as Eknath Shinde Prepares to Address Press-Meet

The race for Maharashtra’s chief minister continues to keep the political landscape buzzing. Eknath Shinde, who recently stepped down as chief minister, is set to address a press conference shortly, adding to the anticipation surrounding the next leader of the state.

The Mahayuti alliance, consisting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), emerged victorious in the Maharashtra elections, securing a decisive 235 out of 288 assembly seats. The BJP claimed 131 seats, while the Shiv Sena and NCP won 57 and 41 seats, respectively.

Currently, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde are the front-runners for the chief minister's position. However, no official announcement has been made yet. Leaders from the alliance are expected to meet soon to deliberate and finalize the choice for the top post.

Several members of the Shiv Sena have voiced their preference for Shinde to retain the position. The final decision, however, is anticipated to involve consultations between Shinde, Fadnavis, and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, along with input from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde mentioned that discussions for government formation are actively underway and that the BJP’s central leadership will play a crucial role in the decision-making process.

The elections for the 288 assembly seats were held on November 20, with a voter turnout of 66.05%. The counting of votes concluded on November 23, solidifying the Mahayuti alliance's dominance in the state.

Press Conference Scheduled Amid Speculation Amid the ongoing suspense, Eknath Shinde’s press conference is set to take place shortly. Observers are keenly watching for any announcements that could shed light on the next chief minister.

Shiv Sena Pushes for CM From Party Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat reiterated the party’s stance, saying, “We want the CM to be from Shiv Sena. We fought the election under the leadership of CM Eknath Shinde, and I believe top leaders will also support him. The new government in Maharashtra will likely be in place by December 2.”

He also hinted at a grand swearing-in ceremony, speculating that it might be held at Wankhede Stadium.
