Bhopal: A large organization of transporters has announced a three-day strike in Madhya Pradesh from today. The organization is demanding a relaxation in the Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel along with a road tax and a concession in the Goods and Services Tax (GST), citing the Corona epidemic hitting the transport business. The All India Motor Transport Congress has called the strike called 'lockdown' in the state from Monday to Wednesday. On giving information, the vice president of the organization (Western Region) Vijay Kalra has told that during our three-day lockdown the wheels of about seven lakh commercial vehicles will stop in the state. These include trucks and small transport vehicles. Kalra said that due to the loss of business due to the havoc of the Corona epidemic, the state transporters are facing economic difficulties and the prices of diesel have gone up much earlier. Kalra said that under these circumstances we demand that VAT on diesel be reduced, transporters should be given concession in road tax and GST during the two quarters of this financial year (April-June and July-September). Along with this, the corona insurance of truck drivers should be insured by the state government. Kalra accused the state's borders of rampant corruption in the check posts of the transport department and also demanded that these posts be closed immediately.
