Catholic nun pressured whole family to become Christians, bailed out of High Court

New Delhi: A Catholic nun accused of pressuring a Hindu woman to convert her religion has been granted anticipatory bail by the Madhya Pradesh High Court on March 16, 2021. The complainant said that the nun not only pressured her to change her religion but also expelled her from the job when she did not obey.

The accused nun is the principal at the Sacred Heart Convent High School in Khajuraho in the Chattarpur district. The former assistant librarian of the school alleged that the principal pressured her to adopt Christianity. According to the complaining Hindu woman, her husband is suffering from a mental disorder. They were told that if their whole family becomes Christian, her husband will be healed. The woman did not accept the school principal even after many temptations. Finally, she was thrown out of the job by referring to poor performance.

The FIR says that the nun had told the victim that the Lord of Christianity is great from the God of Hinduism. However, the nun's lawyer has termed all the allegations as baseless. He said the complainant was expelled from the job and in this outrage, she lodged a complaint. After the complaint of a Hindu woman, a case has been registered against the nun under section 3 and section 5 of the Madhya Pradesh Religious Freedom Act, 2020. It was for this reason that the Principal had sought anticipatory bail to avoid arrest, on which Justice Sreedharan's bench accepted it while hearing.
