Mumbai’s Western Railway network experienced significant disruptions on Tuesday morning due to track issues at Santacruz and Bhayandar stations. The problem, known as a "points failure," involves a malfunction with the track switching mechanisms that allow trains to change tracks. Railway officials reported that the issues were resolved quickly, with both faults fixed within an hour. Despite this, commuters faced delays of 25 to 30 minutes on suburban trains, leading to overcrowded trains and stations. The disruption particularly affected office-goers and other travelers during the rush hour. A commuter heading to Churchgate from Virar noted, "The crowd at Virar station has increased significantly due to the disrupted services." According to a Western Railway spokesperson, the track fault at Bhayandar occurred at 5:00 am and was fixed by 5:45 am, while the issue at Santacruz was identified at 5:20 am and resolved by 5:50 am. The Western Railway network, which manages over 1,300 suburban services, serves approximately 3.5 million passengers daily, operating between Churchgate in South Mumbai and Dahanu in the Palghar district.
