Gwalior: Madhya Pradesh police have filed a case against Amritlal Meena, an additional superintendent of police (ASP), in Vidisha district over a fake caste certificate. The FIR, lodged on December 7, accuses Meena of cheating and violating sections of the Indian Penal Code. The state-level investigation committee revealed that a doubtful Scheduled Tribe certificate issued by Meena on October 29, 1991, was revoked in 2016. Despite obtaining a stay order in 2016, it was lifted in a December 1, 2023, High Court order, leading to the registration of the case. ASP Sameer Yadav, the Vidisha ASP, stated, "A case has been registered against the concerned ASP under IPC sections 420, 467, 468, and 471 in connection with a fake caste certificate issue. The action has been taken based on a report from the state-level investigation committee. We are further looking into it." The FIR copy details that the state-level committee, mandated by the Madhya Pradesh government to scrutinize doubtful caste certificates of Scheduled Tribes, decided on February 19, 2016, to cancel Meena's doubtful certificate. This decision was challenged by Meena in the MP High Court, resulting in a stay order on April 5, 2016. However, the stay was lifted in a December 1, 2023, High Court order, prompting the initiation of the case. In response to the accusations, ASP Yadav added, "The concerned ASP informed that on December 8, the Madhya Pradesh High Court granted a restoration order (about restoring the previous stay order) into the matter. Nonetheless, the case is registered into the matter as of now."
