AGARTALA: On Monday, the opposition Left Front announced their candidates for the by-elections to four assembly constituencies in Tripura on June 23. Krishan Majumder was renominated from the same Agartala constituency where he ran unsuccessfully for the CPI(M) in the 2018 assembly elections. Raghunath Sarkar, the head of the Forward Bloc, will contest for the Town Bardowali constituency in West Tripura district. Former CPI(M) MLA Anjan Das will contest for the Surma seat in Dhalai, while party leader Sailendra Chandra Nath will contest for the Jubarajnagar seat in North Tripura. "At today's Left Front meeting, all of the names were decided unanimously." Left Front convenor Narayan Kar told reporters here that the aspirants will file their nomination papers within the next two days. Left Front has urged the Election Commission to declare all polling stations sensitive and deploy central paramilitary forces to ensure free and fair elections, he said. Narayan Kar claimed that important elections, such as those for the Lok Sabha, panchayats, and civic bodies, since the 2018 assembly elections were not free and fair. He said, the Left Front requests that all polling booths be webcast to prevent any irregularities, and that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, repolling was ordered in 300 booths in the East Tripura parliamentary constituency due to extensive rigging.
