Jaipur: More than 19,000 farmer's lands have been confiscated in Rajasthan in the last four years due to non-repayment of bank loans. This is not the allegation of the opposition party or any leader, but the Ashok Gehlot government of the state has accepted this in the Assembly itself. In response to a question by BJP MLA Narpat Singh Rajvi in the Assembly, the government has said that according to the data of the Revenue Department and the Revenue Board, the land of 19422 farmers of the state has been confiscated. This answer of the Rajasthan government is more surprising because in the Rajasthan Assembly elections 2018, many leaders including the then Congress national president Rahul Gandhi had promised that the loans of farmers would be waived within just 10 days of forming the government. But, far from waiving loans, the Congress government, after coming to power, has snatched the land of 19,422 farmers, their only means of livelihood. Narpat Singh says that CM Ashok Gehlot himself had said in the Assembly that, 'Farmers' lands will not be confiscated. But when the land of 19,000 farmers was taken away, Narpat Singh said, "What is left when the chief minister lied in the Bhari assembly constituency?" What is the issue of loan waiver: In fact, all the loan waivers that have been done in Rajasthan include only cooperative banks. But, farmers do not take loans only from cooperative banks, but they also take loans from national, commercial, nationalized rural banks etc. The loan taken in the name of agricultural work is repaid by the farmer when there is a good crop, but many times the mortgaged land is threatened if the crop is not good due to various reasons. Small farmers (those with 5-10 bighas of land) suffer more and lose their means of livelihood. According to a report, 338 farmers have committed suicide in Rajasthan in the last 5 years (till 2022), but only 13 of them have been considered as farmers by the government, the rest are agricultural labor. That is, agricultural labourers, who do farming, but do not have their own land. Surprisingly, farmer leaders like Rakesh Tikait, who often claim to have a cross-border fight on the issue of farmers, have not even responded to this.
