What are the symptoms of monkeypox?

The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed serious concern about monkeypox and has declared it a global emergency. Recently, the new strain (Clade-1) of this virus has raised concerns as it is more infectious and has a higher mortality rate. Amidst these circumstances, India has taken an important step against monkeypox.

India developed a new RT-PCR test kit

India has developed its own RT-PCR test kit for monkeypox, which has been approved by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). The kit has been developed by Siemens Healthcare and is manufactured under the Make in India initiative. This test kit can prove to be an important tool in the fight against monkeypox.

Kit Features

The IMDX Monkeypox Detection RT-PCR Kit is an advanced molecular diagnostic tool that identifies both Clade I and Clade II variants of the virus. The kit targets two different regions in the virus genome, ensuring that different strains can be accurately identified.

This test kit fits easily into all types of lab workflows, eliminating the need for a second machine. The ability to use existing COVID testing facilities makes it even more effective. Hariharan Subramanian, Managing Director, Siemens Healthcare, said that the accuracy and efficiency of this kit makes it a vital tool in the fight against monkeypox.

Results in 40 minutes

The results of the test conducted with this new RT-PCR kit are available in just 40 minutes. The old kits used to take 1-2 hours to get the report. The tests conducted by the IMDX kit boast of 100 percent sensitivity and specificity. The kit follows Indian and global standards, and is clinically validated by ICMR-National Institute of Virology, Pune. The new monkeypox RT-PCR test kit developed by India can prove to be a significant contribution in the fight against monkeypox. Its ability to give rapid results and high accuracy make it an effective diagnostic tool, which can play a vital role in this global health emergency.
