But hoisting the tricolor on private vehicles is considered a legal offense. If someone violates this rule, action can be taken against him under the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act, 1971. Under this Act, a person found guilty of insulting the national flag, constitution and national anthem can be punished with up to 3 years in prison, fine, or both.
