The Modi cabinet has approved the proposal of 'One Nation-One Election', which will be presented in the winter session of Parliament. Under this proposal, it has been said to conduct Lok Sabha, Assembly and local body elections simultaneously in the country. While the parties included in the NDA have supported this proposal, the opposition leaders have opposed it. Kharge raised questions: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has opposed 'One Nation-One Election' and called it impractical. He says that BJP raises such issues to divert attention before the elections. Calling it against the Constitution, democracy and federalism, he said that the country will never accept it. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav reacted to Kharge's statement and said that more than 80% of the people have supported this proposal, especially the youth are in favor of it. Owaisi expressed concern: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi also opposed 'One Nation-One Election'. He said that this proposal is going to destroy federalism and compromises democracy. Owaisi believes that frequent elections increase democratic accountability, so there is no need to stop it. TMC's opposition: TMC leader Derek O'Brien called this proposal an "anti-democracy" tactic of the BJP. He questioned that when Maharashtra elections cannot be held along with Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir elections, then how is 'One Nation-One Election' being talked about? He also asked how many constitutional amendments would be made to implement this proposal. Support of Manjhi and Mayawati: NDA alliance partner and HAM chief Jitan Ram Manjhi supported 'One Nation-One Election'. He said that frequent elections affect administrative decisions and policies and also put a burden on the country's treasury. He said that this will also provide convenience to Dalit voters. BSP chief Mayawati has also described this proposal as positive, but also said that its objective should be in the country and public interest. She says that if the country benefits from this system, then her party will support it. The issue of 'One Nation-One Election' is currently a topic of discussion in politics. While the government is moving forward to implement it, the opposition parties are calling it against the Constitution and federalism. Now it remains to be seen what decisions are taken regarding this proposal in the winter session of Parliament and how the people of the country take it.
