In Karnataka, BJP MLA Munirathna and six others have been charged with rape, sexual harassment, and criminal intimidation, according to police reports. The case was filed following a complaint from a 40-year-old woman who alleged that the incidents occurred at a private resort under the Kaggalipura police station's jurisdiction. The complaint was lodged on Wednesday night, leading to charges against Munirathna and six others under various sections, including rape by a public servant, sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy, voyeurism, and violations of the Information Technology Act. This new case adds to Munirathna's legal troubles. He is already in police custody following his arrest for allegedly threatening a contractor and using casteist language. The contractor had previously released an audio clip claiming Munirathna demanded a bribe, leading to two separate cases filed against the MLA on September 13. Munirathna, who represents the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Assembly seat, was arrested in Kolar. The police are currently investigating the new rape allegations, which were reported shortly after his arrest for the earlier charges. On September 15, Munirathna was placed in two-day police custody after being arrested for allegedly threatening a contractor and using casteist slurs. These accusations had already cast a shadow over the Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA. The FIR filed on Wednesday marks the third case against him. The legal issues for BJP leaders in Karnataka extend beyond Munirathna. Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje and BJP Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, R. Ashok, have also been implicated.
