Vijayawada: Mohammed Karimunnisa, a member of the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, died of cardiac arrest late Friday night. She was 56 years old at the time. She complained of being uneasy and was brought to a private hospital, where she died about midnight, according to her relatives. Karimunnisa was suffering from health issues and was on medication. On Thursday and Friday, she attended the Legislative Council session. On Monday, the legislator met with Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. On March 30, she was elected to the Legislative Council for a six-year term from the MLA quota. She had previously served as a Vijayawada Corporation corporator and was running for re-election in the recent municipal elections when Jagan Mohan Reddy unexpectedly selected her for Council. Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his shock over Karimunnisa's demise. Karimunnisa's deathwas shocking because she had attended the Council meeting on Friday, he said. The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the MLC's family. Karimunnisa, he said, made significant contributions as a Muslim corporator in Vijayawada and was elevated to MLC. He promised her family that he and his political party would support them.
