The committee emphasized the importance of rectifying any discrepancies in the voters' list well in advance of the nomination process. Moreover, the Election Committee unveiled plans for various activities, including a presidential debate aimed at fostering open communication among candidates. Shailendra Kumar, the committee head, highlighted the significance of these engagements in ensuring transparency and integrity throughout the electoral process, urging students to actively participate. A comprehensive timetable for General Body Meetings will be made public only after the final list of candidates is confirmed. On January 28, following relentless advocacy from JNUSU and the united student community, the JNU Administration issued the first notification regarding the forthcoming JNUSU elections. This came in the wake of JNUSU's submission of a final memorandum to the administration, accompanied by a call for a complete University Strike on January 30 and a total non-cooperation movement. According to the recommendations of the Lyngdoh committee, student union elections should be conducted within six to eight weeks from the beginning of the semester. The university appealed for the cooperation of all students to ensure fair and orderly elections. The last JNUSU elections were held over four years ago in September 2019, witnessing a sweeping victory for the Left student organizations, including the Student Federation of India (SFI), All India Students Association (AISA), All India Students' Federation (AISF), and Democratic Students' Federation (DSF). Aishe Ghosh emerged as the JNUSU president, defeating the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the main competitor at that time.
